General Properties: High-molecular-weight polymers (e.g., cellulose derivatives, polyacrylates, or natural gums) that hydrate and swell in water to increase viscosity.
Synergistic Role in Defoamers: According to Stokes' Law, the migration speed of a droplet is inversely proportional to the viscosity of the continuous phase. Thickeners increase this viscosity, slowing down the creaming of defoamer oil droplets and keeping the emulsion homogeneous.

Increases Continuous Phase Viscosity: Physically restricts the movement of defoamer oil droplets.
