Stabilizers

Stabilizers encompass a broad category of protective additives, including biocides, antioxidants, and pH buffers. They are added to defoamer formulations to protect the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the product over its entire shelf life, ensuring it performs exactly as intended on day 100 as it did on day 1.

    FEATURES

General Properties: Diverse chemical structures depending on the type (e.g., isothiazolinones for biocides, BHT for antioxidants, amines for pH buffers); effective at very low dosages.
Synergistic Role in Defoamers: Defoamer emulsions are rich in organic materials (oils, surfactants) and water, making them a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Furthermore, certain defoamer oils can oxidize, and emulsifiers can hydrolyze if the pH drifts. Stabilizers neutralize these degradation pathways.
     Performance Benefits:
Prevents Microbial Spoilage (Biostability): Inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi, preventing foul odors, gas generation (can cause packaging to swell), and emulsion breakdown.
Inhibits Oxidation: Protects active defoamer oils (especially natural oils or unsaturated compounds) from oxidizing, which can cause yellowing and loss of defoaming efficiency.
Buffers pH: Maintains the optimal pH range to prevent the chemical hydrolysis of the emulsifiers, ensuring long-term physical stability.
