Rheology Modifiers

Rheology modifiers are advanced additives that alter the flow and deformation behavior of a liquid. Unlike simple thickeners, they create a weak three-dimensional network (yield stress) within the defoamer formulation. This structural network is critical for suspending large defoamer oil droplets or heavy solid particles without making the product too thick to pump.

    FEATURES

General Properties: Exhibit non-Newtonian, shear-thinning (pseudoplastic) behavior; they provide high viscosity at rest (low shear) and low viscosity when pumped or agitated (high shear).
Synergistic Role in Defoamers: They build a "suspension matrix" that physically locks defoamer droplets and hydrophobic silica particles in place during storage, preventing them from migrating, creaming, or settling due to gravity.
     Performance Benefits:
Provides Yield Stress: Effectively suspends heavy or large defoamer components that would otherwise separate.
Prevents Phase Separation: Significantly enhances shelf-life by preventing creaming (oil rising) or sedimentation (solids sinking).
Excellent Pumpability: Because they are shear-thinning, the defoamer flows easily through pipes and dosing pumps when force is applied, despite being highly structured at rest.
