Dispersants

Dispersants and suspending agents keep insoluble active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) or food particles (e.g., calcium, cocoa, vitamins) uniformly suspended. Agitation entrains air, requiring defoamers to break the foam without causing particle settling or flocculation.

    FEATURES

General Properties: Food/pharma-grade polymers (e.g., microcrystalline cellulose, xanthan gum, povidone); typically white powders or clear viscous liquids.
Synergistic Role: Dispersants stabilize solid particles but can also stabilize foam bubbles. The defoamer must rapidly rupture the foam lamella without neutralizing the steric or electrostatic repulsion that keeps the solid particles dispersed.
     Performance Benefits:
Prevents Particle Flocculation: Breaks foam without causing the dispersed API or food particles to clump or settle prematurely.
Ensures Dose Uniformity: Keeps the suspension homogeneous and foam-free, guaranteeing a consistent active ingredient concentration in every dose or serving.
Enhances Pumping and Filtration: Eliminates foam that could cause pump cavitation or blind filters during the manufacturing of liquid suspensions.
