Chelating Agents
FEATURES
General Properties: Organic acids or their salts (e.g., EDTA, NTA, gluconates); typically clear liquids or water-soluble powders.
Synergistic Role: Hard water reacts with anionic surfactants to form "calcium soaps," which act as secondary foaming agents and destabilize defoamers. Chelating agents soften the water, allowing the defoamer to perform consistently.
Performance Benefits:
Hard Water Tolerance: Ensures the defoamer maintains its knock-down and persistence even in high-hardness water.
Prevents Soap Scum: Stops the formation of insoluble soaps that can clog filters and cause excessive foam.
Improves Emulsion Stability: Keeps the metalworking fluid stable and prevents hard-water-induced emulsion splitting.
